Privacy Notice
Last updated: 7 October 2026
Who we are
“QuestDB”, “we” and “us” mean QuestDB Technology Inc. and its subsidiaries. Two of them are responsible for your personal data:
- QuestDB Ltd (registered in England and Wales, company number 12149461, registered office: 8 Devonshire Square, London EC2M 4YJ, United Kingdom), for our websites, community, marketing and QuestDB Open Source telemetry, and for its own customers (including their telemetry) and job applicants.
- QuestDB Inc. (incorporated in Delaware, USA, file number 7911344, registered office: 1209 Orange Street, Wilmington, DE 19801, USA), for Enterprise trials, including trial registration and telemetry, and for its own customers (including their telemetry) and job applicants.
You can contact both at privacy@questdb.com.
This notice does not cover data that customers store in QuestDB, including in QuestDB Enterprise and BYOC deployments.
What we collect and why
- Website visitors: technical data such as IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, referring page and timestamps, and how you use our pages, such as clicks, scrolling and session recordings (text you type into forms is masked). We use it to run, secure and improve our websites, understand how they are used and measure our advertising (see Cookies below).
- Docs assistant and search: questions you type into Ask AI or the search on our documentation, used to answer them and to improve our documentation.
- Forms and requests: when you contact us, request an Enterprise trial, subscribe to our newsletter or send feedback from the Web Console, we collect the details you provide, such as your name, email and company, and use them to respond, provide the trial or newsletter, and follow up about QuestDB. For contact and trial requests, we also record the IP address and country they are sent from, to check where requests come from (for example, for sanctions rules) and to prevent abuse. Where analytics or advertising cookies are enabled, we link your submission to your activity on our websites and use it to measure our advertising.
- Customers and trial users: contact, billing and support information, used to provide our products, services and trials and manage the contract.
- Job applicants: the information in your application, used to assess it and run the recruitment process.
- Community: posts and profile details in our community forum are public; in our Slack they are visible to other members. We use them to run the community and answer questions.
You do not have to give us personal data, but without it we may not be able to respond to you, provide a trial or consider your application.
Product telemetry
The QuestDB Web Console sends us information about the QuestDB instance and how QuestDB and the Web Console are used, such as an instance ID, version, operating system, installation package and environment, the number of CPU cores, database size and table count (as ranges), the name, type and description the operator sets, hourly write activity, which features of QuestDB and the Web Console are used, and the browser. It does not include your queries or the data in your tables. We receive the IP address it is sent from and use an IP lookup service to estimate the organization and location behind it. When telemetry is on, the Web Console also stores a random identifier in your browser, along with usage events waiting to be sent.
Telemetry is on by default, and whoever runs a QuestDB Open Source server can switch it off in the server configuration. Even with telemetry off, the Web Console contacts our servers to fetch news and, in QuestDB Open Source, to check for new versions, so we still receive the IP address it connects from and the Web Console’s web address. For QuestDB Enterprise, whose license terms require telemetry, the Web Console always sends at least the instance ID, version, operating system, installation package, and the name, type and description the operator sets, even if telemetry is switched off. If you send feedback from the Web Console, we receive these instance details with your message, and your email if you give one.
We use telemetry to improve our products, to understand which organizations use QuestDB and, for QuestDB Enterprise, to check license compliance.
Legal bases
We rely on:
- our legitimate interests in running, securing and improving our websites and products, understanding how and by which organizations our products are used, checking license compliance, managing our relationships with customers and trial users, responding to inquiries and marketing QuestDB to businesses;
- performing a contract with you, or taking steps at your request before entering into one, for example when you apply for a job;
- your consent, for optional cookies and similar technologies on our websites and for the newsletter, which you can withdraw at any time;
- legal obligations, such as keeping tax and accounting records and complying with sanctions rules.
Who we share it with
QuestDB group companies and service providers acting for us, such as hosting, CRM and email, analytics, AI assistant and search, form protection, consent management, recruiting and IP lookup providers. Where advertising cookies are enabled, we also share data with Google to measure our advertising, including contact details you enter in our forms, in hashed form. Google may use this data for its own purposes and may collect information about your activity on our websites and other websites over time. We may also disclose data to professional advisers, to authorities where the law requires it, or in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of all or part of our business.
International transfers
QuestDB has team members, customers and service providers around the world, so your personal data may be accessed or processed outside the country where it was collected, including in the United States. Where the law requires it, we protect these transfers with appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses. You can ask for a copy of these safeguards at privacy@questdb.com.
How long we keep it
Only as long as we need it for the purposes above, taking into account the type of data, why we hold it and our legal obligations. After that, we delete or anonymize it. We keep customer and financial records for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law, and similar laws where they apply, you can ask us to access, correct, delete or transfer your personal data, or to restrict its use. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
You can object at any time to our use of your personal data based on legitimate interests, including for direct marketing.
To exercise these rights, email privacy@questdb.com. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in the UK this is the Information Commission (ico.org.uk).
Cookies, tracking technologies and Do Not Track
Cookies
A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. QuestDB uses cookies and similar technologies to operate the websites, remember preferences, understand how the websites are used, and measure advertising. Some are necessary for the websites to function; others are optional.
Where a consent choice is presented, optional technologies follow your selection. You can review or change your choices at any time through the “Cookie settings” link in the footer. A necessary cookie stores those choices so they can be remembered.
Some cookies and similar technologies are provided by third-party service providers. A current list of cookies, providers, purposes, and lifetimes is available through “Cookie settings.”
Tracking technologies
We may use third-party services to understand website performance and use, measure advertising, protect forms from abuse, and provide interactive features. These services may process technical information such as IP address, browser and device type, referring and exit pages, timestamps, and interactions with the websites. We use this information to operate, protect, and improve the websites and to assess the effectiveness of advertising.
Analytics may operate without cookies or a persistent browser identifier when statistics storage is not enabled. When it is enabled, analytics may use cookies or similar storage. Advertising technologies are subject to your marketing choice where that choice is presented.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal by disabling advertising technologies while the signal is active. GPC does not change analytics choices. The older “Do Not Track” browser setting has no uniform standard, and we do not respond to it. You can manage optional technologies through “Cookie settings.”
